Traditional Turkish Paper Marbling

Ebru, referred to as the “dance of colors on water”, is an art that has been considered a spiritual art for centuries. This unique art form is produced by sprinkling color pigments on to thickened water and utilizing special brushes to create various designs then transferred onto a sheet of paper or other surfaces.
Week 1: Abstract Style Marbling
This class will cover a variety of techniques including the preparation of paints, adjusting the marbling solution for abstract design, creating abstract stone marbling such as stone, shawl, combed, peacock, shell, somaki designs. Students will create and keep their own unique art pieces.
Week 2: Floral Designs
This class will cover a variety of techniques including the preparation of paints, adjusting the marbling solution for floral design, creating flower-styled marbling such as tulips, hyacinths, daisies, violets, carnations, and roses. Students will create and keep their own unique art pieces.
Week 3: Review
This class will cover a variety of techniques including the finishing and traditional framing techniques for the marbled papers and review of drawing techniques of previous 2 weeks classes. Students will create and keep their own unique art pieces.
